Vinesh Phogat wins the 53 kg wrestling championship, winning a hat-trick of golds, over Chamodya Keshani of Sri Lanka.

India's Vinesh Phogat defeated Chamodya Keshani of Sri Lanka in the 53 kg Women's freestyle Wrestling final on Saturday (August 6). 

Indian wrestlers Pooja Gehlot (50 kg), Vinesh Phogat (53 kg), Anshu Malik (57 kg), Sakshi Malik (62 kg), Divya Kakran (68 kg) and Pooja Dhanda (76 kg) were selected for the Women's Wrestling team.

In the 54 kg Women's Freestyle Wrestling competition, Vinesh won all three of her matches, and the Nordic system determined the victor.

a format where all wrestlers compete against one another in a round-robin format for the gold medal.

 Vinesh performed admirably and at ease during all three matches.

After Sushil Kumar, Vinesh Phogat became the second Indian wrestler to win three consecutive GOLD medals at the Commonwealth Games.

After Ravi Kumar Dahiya's 10th gold medal at the CWG Birmingham, which he won by defeating Nigeria's Ebikewenimo Welson in the final, it was India's 11th gold medal overall.
